Associate Technical Artist - Runtime

Moonshot Games is a new studio based in Irvine, California. Moonshot Games is seeking a highly-motivated Technical Artist to create wondrous workflows and worlds.  Our ideal candidate is excited to develop tools and techniques to make 3D Art work well in game.  Knowledge of 3D art construction techniques, mathematics for games, and programming are important skills in the role.

With your creativity, insight, and knowledge, you’ll empower Artists to create memorable experiences that bring joy to players.  You’ll collaborate with Engineers and Designers to optimize and implement art in game.  You’ll partner with Producers and QA to form processes that support high quality game development. Together, we'll build out the artistic workflows at Moonshot Games.  Come help us create memorable games and a memorable studio!

What your day to day will look like…

  • Build tools in Maya, Houdini, and Unreal Engine for creating art and helping Artists
  • Author Scripts and Graphs to make characters, props, and VFX look awesome in game
  • Develop new artistic techniques to overcome artistic challenges
  • Collaborate and Communicate across departments to support artistic goals
  • Help identify and fix performance bottlenecks
  • Document best practices and standards to ensure workflows and pipelines are shared and understood

Some of the things you bring to the table…

  • Familiarity with programming, especially towards artistic goals, such as for Shaders or for Art Tools
  • Understanding of art workflows in tools such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, ZBrush, 3dsMax, Substance Designer, or Photoshop
  • Practical understanding of mathematics for game development
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and evolving environment


  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • C++, Python, and HLSL specifically
  • Art skills, such as animation or modeling
  • Experience with graphics optimization and debugging tools such as NSight and RenderDoc
